ADMISSION OF CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES Parts of our school buildings are very difficult for a physically disabled person to access, particularly the upstairs areas inside and the steps outside. There is a disabled toilet in the reception area and handrails have been fitted on outside steps. This year we have implemented a programme of painting of the edges of outside steps and kerbs to improve visibility. All recent additions to the school buildings are easier to access, though any student needing to use a wheelchair would be restricted to the ground floor level as we have no lifts. We modify individual timetables as much as possible to accommodate specific needs. The school is working on its Disability Action Plan which sets out steps to improve disability access and as part of this we are setting up a consultation committee for users of the site with disabilities which will report to the Governing Body. We are committed to making improvements and we do not want any students to be treated less favourably because of a disability. If you have any comments about ways we might improve disabled access to the building or to the curriculum, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Kitchen. |
