Absence from school

Please telephone the school office to inform us if your child is not able to attend school. Please also send us a written confirmation to your child's form teacher when he/she returns, giving the reasons for the absence, even if the school has been notified by telephone earlier.

Any absence from school will obviously interrupt your child's education and make it more difficult for your child to keep up with work. This will reduce their motivation and confidence. Setting work at home can be arranged but most work needs the teacher to be present to be fully effective. Any avoidable term-time absence from school is therefore strongly discouraged.

If you do take a holiday during term-time, please ask for a holiday form, obtainable from the school office, to be returned to your child's class teacher. Authorisation to be absent from school to go on holiday may not be given, especially if your child has been away for other reasons such as illness. Provided we have been told in advance, you may request authorisation for not more than 10 school days in a school year. No authorisation will be given during the period when your child should take Year 6 National Tests (SATs) - dates are on the school website calendar.

Please see the "Behaviour and Attendance Policy" on the school website, under "Extra Pages", for further details.
