School Procedures - Introduction We try to maintain a happy but well ordered community in line with the school aims. We expect all members of our school community to be fair and honest, and to show respect for each other. The school has a School Council with one student elected from each class where issues raised by the students are discussed with senior staff. Parents and students are requested to sign a home-school agreement which will be countersigned by the form teacher. This sets out our responsibilities and what you can expect from us. Rewards: We try to recognise and reward good effort, conduct or achievement. House Points go on a card in your child's Personal Organiser - and prizes and badges are awarded as these accumulate. Postcards home are sent for exceptional work and there are many other prizes and awards which we use to recognise good work and good behaviour, either individually or collectively. Sanctions: If however we consider that there is a problem with your child’s behaviour towards others, depending on the seriousness of the offence, your child will be punished by a verbal reprimand or by losing some of their free time. Depending on the seriousness of the offence, staff may enter brief details on a conduct log in the school organiser. Progress Managers monitor these logs and will punish students with several entries, for example by removing privileges such as attendance on a school trip, disco or party. If the problem recurs, we may contact you more formally and we will monitor your child’s effort and attitude more closely, trying to work with you and your child to improve the situation. Students may have their freedom of movement around the site restricted at breaks, or may have to work for a period on their own. We may also ask you to come in to try to help us to resolve the situation. In the case of repeated antisocial behaviour, or if an incident is serious, immediately, we may have to resort to exclusion from school. A written warning will normally be given first. Fortunately these sanctions are rarely necessary. Please see the school's Behaviour and Attendance Policy on the school website ("Extra Pages") for further information. The school does its utmost to encourage students by providing a positive atmosphere where success or effort in whatever field is recognised and celebrated. |
