	End of Summer Term Newsletter 26th July 2010
	Dear Parents Changes in Teaching Staff You may well be aware that Mrs Bowers and Mrs Smith are retiring from teaching today and that Mr Taylor and Mr Newcombe will be leaving us to go to other schools. I would like to thank all these teachers for their sterling service to the school and to wish them all well in the future. Starting in September, Mr Skinner will be the new Head of P.E., Mrs Hordern will take a Year 5 class, Miss Smith will be a new English teacher, Mrs Watson will be a new Science teacher and Mr Marks will be taking over as a Maths Teacher. Mrs Rowley will be taking over as Head of Science next term. Brown Headteacher Community Cohesion – Parents’ Survey – Oldfields Hall Middle School Summer 2010 I would like to give you the results of this survey, was conducted earlier this term. Thank you very much if you responded. About a quarter of the parents in the school - 120 - sent in replies. Percentages are rounded to the nearest whole number. Oldfields Hall Middle School - May 2010 Parents Survey Yes No Don't Know Does your child feel they are part of the school community? 93% 2% 5% Is your child encouraged to learn about people from different countries, people from different religions and from different backgrounds at school? 92% 3% 4% Is your child encouraged at school to think what it is like to be from a different background to you? 64% 15% 21% Is your child encouraged at school to see things differently from their own point of view and respect those ideas? 89% 2% 9% Does your child learn at school about culture of people who live in Britain and are from different countries or backgrounds? 80% 10% 11% Is your child given the opportunity at school to understand what it means to have rights and responsibilities and the importance of being fair? 85% 3% 12% Is your child taught at school how to work as part of a team? 96% 2% 3% Would your child at school feel able to tell someone if people are not nice to others just because they are different? 83% 7% 10% Would your child want to try to make things fairer at school? 79% 6% 15% Has your child had the chance to work with boys and girls of different ages in school? 55% 29% 16% Has your child had the chance at school to work with students or visitors who are from a different background? (in terms of language, skin colour, country or religion). 50% 33% 18% These results are encouraging and highly positive, but there are obvious gaps in provision or awareness of what we offer, especially in the answers to the last two questions. The results of the survey will be used to inform actions we take next year, in partnership with other local schools. I hope you will notice the difference in a year’s time. [Close]
